About the station
The southern terminus of the Circle line, opened in March 2024; with it the Tashkent metro reached 50 stations. The transfer to Chinor is via an elevated passage and, unlike other transfers, is paid — you go through the turnstiles again.
The name
The Kipchaks were a medieval Turkic tribe; one of the earliest mentions of them was left in the 9th century by the geographer Ibn Khordadbeh, who was of Persian origin. They settled around Samarkand and Kattakurgan, on the right bank of the Amu Darya and in part of the Fergana Valley. The station stands by Qipchoq street.
Design
An overground covered station with a single island platform — the terminus of the Circle line. There is a lift for passengers with reduced mobility on the east side and a three-belt escalator in the main west vestibule. The transfer to Chinor is via an elevated footbridge over Qipchoq street.
History
Testing without passengers began on 15 December 2023, and the station opened on 11 March 2024; with it the ring was joined to the Sergeli branch, and the metro network grew to 50 stations and 71 km.
Fun fact
«Qipchoq» is an ethnic place name: according to qalampir.uz, about 15 villages in Karakalpakstan alone bear it.
