About the station
Named after the encyclopedic scholar Abu Rayhan Beruniy, it has been the terminus of the Oʻzbekiston line since 1991. The patterned vault meets marble track walls. Marble, granite, metal, glass and porcelain are used in the finish, and the crystal chandeliers share a single style.
The name
The station bears the name of Abu Rayhan Beruniy, the encyclopedic scholar of Central Asia. The National University of Uzbekistan and an exhibition pavilion of Uzexpocentre are nearby.
Design
The hall is a single vault without columns, with one 102 m island platform. The patterned vault flows into marble-clad track walls. Crystal chandeliers in a single style hang in the lobby, over the stairs and in the hall; marble, granite, metal, glass and porcelain are used in the finish.
History
The station opened on 30 April 1991 together with Tinchlik, when the line was extended from Chorsu. Since then it has been the north-western terminus of the Oʻzbekiston line. It is a shallow station, about 8 m deep; two underground lobbies lead to Forobiy and Beruniy streets.
Fun fact
The 1991 Chorsu–Beruniy section was the last one: the Oʻzbekiston line has not been extended since.
