About the station
Named after the capital, the station is next to the North railway station, with a passage to Tashkent railway station. The walls and ceiling carry national-style ornaments, and by the stairs there are images celebrating an anniversary of Tashkent and the city's coat of arms.
The name
The station is named after the capital of Uzbekistan. It lies under the forecourt of the North railway station, and its exit leads to Toshkent railway station.
Design
A three-span pillar station with a 102 m island platform. The columns, walls and ceiling share one traditional national style; the ceramics are by S. Sultonmurodov. The stairways down to the platform carry images for Tashkent's anniversary on the theme «city of peace and friendship» and the city coat of arms by O. Khabibullin.
History
The station opened on 8 December 1984 as the eastern terminus of the first section of the Oʻzbekiston line. It remained the terminus for almost three years, until November 1987, when the line was extended to Chkalov (now Doʻstlik). Its two underground lobbies have exits to Turkiston and Taras Shevchenko streets and Amir Temur Avenue.
