About the station
The station was built with funds from the Chkalov Tashkent Aviation Plant, so until 2012 it bore the name of the pilot Valery Chkalov; «Doʻstlik» means «friendship». Butterfly-shaped lamps hang under the turquoise vault, and the columns look like radars. A passage leads to Texnopark.
The name
«Doʻstlik» is Uzbek for «friendship». Until 5 October 2012 the station was called «Chkalov», after test pilot Valery Chkalov, because it was built with funds from the Tashkent aviation association named after him. In the design stage it was called «Aircraft Builders' Town».
Design
The station has a single vault: the reinforced-concrete dome is painted turquoise, and butterfly-shaped lamps create a feeling of flight. Aluminium columns shaped like radars stand in the middle of the hall. The lobby and stair walls are faced with white Gazgan marble, and the floor with grey and black granite.
History
The station opened in November 1987 as the terminus of the Toshkent–Chkalov section and still ends the line in the east. The lobby had a panel marking the 50th anniversary of the non-stop Moscow – North Pole – Vancouver flight and a bas-relief of Chkalov, the crew commander; they were removed in October 2012 after the renaming. An underground passage leads to Texnopark on the 30th Anniversary of Independence line.
Fun fact
One of the station's exits is combined with the entrance checkpoint of the Tashkent Mechanical Plant, the former Chkalov aviation association.
