About the station
Named after the Uzbek poet, prose writer and translator Gʻafur Gʻulom. The faceted columns thicken towards the top, and the lights are hidden in domed niches of the ceiling. The station was decorated by the ceramic artist Saparniyoz Sultonmurodov.
The name
The station is named after Gʻafur Gʻulom, the Uzbek poet, writer and publicist. In the design stage it was called «Xadra».
Design
A three-span pillar station with a 102 m island platform. The faceted columns thicken towards the top, and the lights are hidden in the ceiling domes. The finish combines marble, granite, metal, glass and art-ceramic compositions by S. Sultonmurodov.
History
The station opened on 6 November 1989 together with Chorsu, when the line was extended from Alisher Navoiy. Its western lobby stood closed for many years because of low passenger numbers. After repairs and new equipment it reopened on 11 December 2025.
