About the station
Named after Navoiy Avenue, which bears the name of the classic of Turkic poetry Alisher Navoiy. The panels on the hall walls illustrate scenes from his «Khamsa». It is one of the most beautiful halls of the Tashkent metro; you can change to Paxtakor through the lobby.
The name
The station lies under Navoiy Avenue and is named after it. The avenue bears the name of the poet and thinker Alisher Navoiy, a classic of Turkic literature.
Design
The ceiling of the pillar hall is made of domes: each rests on four arches and is covered inside with fine oriental ornament. The walls carry panels based on Navoiy's «Khamsa»: «Layli and Majnun», «Farhod and Shirin», «Saddi Iskandari» and «Seven Planets». The domes are brightly lit.
History
The station opened on 8 December 1984 in the first section of the line, running to Toshkent. For almost five years, until November 1989, it was the terminus. The southern lobby offers a transfer to Paxtakor on the Chilonzor line.
Fun fact
The «Khamsa» has five poems, but the station has only four panels: «Hayrat ul-abror» was left out to keep the hall symmetrical.
