About the station
The station opened in 1977 as «Friendship of Peoples» — the palace of the same name stands next to it. In 2008 it was renamed «Bunyodkor», and in 2018 the historic name was restored. The walls and columns are finished in light grey marble and the floor in grey and black granite.
The name
The station is named after the Friendship of Peoples square and palace it serves. On the square stands a monument to the family of blacksmith Shaahmed Shamakhmudov, who took in 15 orphans evacuated to Tashkent during the war.
Design
A shallow three-span column station with a 102 m island platform and both underground and surface lobbies. The walls and columns are faced with light grey marble, ceramic panels decorate the track walls, and the floor is laid with polished grey and black granite slabs.
History
The station opened on 6 November 1977 in the first section of the metro. In 2008 it was renamed Bunyodkor. In late April 2018 President Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed restoring the old name, and on 3 May 2018 the Tashkent City Kengash approved it. In 2024 the station's escalators were fully replaced.
Fun fact
Originally the track walls bore the coats of arms of the 15 Soviet republics; they were later dismantled.
