About the station

The station got its current name in 1993 from the neighbouring Amir Temur Square. It opened in 1977 as part of the very first section of the metro. The columns are faced with white Nurata marble and the track walls with reddish Gazgan marble; a tunnel from the platform leads to Yunus Rajabiy.

The name

The station is named after the neighbouring Amir Temur Square, which honours the 14th-century ruler. It has borne its current name since 1 August 1993, after two earlier names.

Design

This shallow three-span column station is built of precast reinforced concrete; its island platform is 102 m long and 10 m wide. The ceiling slabs are hidden by a suspended ceiling, with lights set into the crossbeams. The columns are faced with white Nurata marble, the track walls with reddish Gazgan marble, and the floor is laid with grey and black granite.

History

The station opened on 6 November 1977 in the first section of the metro as «October Revolution» and was the terminus until 18 August 1980. In 1992 it was renamed «Markaziy xiyobon» («Central Square»), and in 1993 «Amir Temur xiyoboni». Since 2001 you can change here to Yunus Rajabiy; one of the passages is a tunnel straight from the platform.
