About the station

«Paxtakor» means «cotton grower»: the station is dedicated to the republic's cotton farmers, and the Paxtakor stadium and Tashkent City are nearby. The columns are faced with light marble and topped with capitals lit from inside, the track walls are covered with ceramics and the walls carry smalt panels. A passage leads to Alisher Navoiy.

The name

«Paxtakor» means «cotton grower» in Uzbek. The station is dedicated to Uzbekistan's cotton farmers — cotton is known here as «oq oltin», white gold. The Paxtakor stadium is nearby.

Design

A shallow three-span column station with a 102 m island platform. The columns are faced with light Gazgan marble and topped with capitals lit from inside, and the floor is laid with grey and black granite. The track walls are covered with ceramics by I. Zharsky, and colourful smalt mosaics by V. Burmakin adorn the walls and the descent to the platform. The station's sky-blue mosaic shows open cotton bolls on orange stems.

History

The station opened on 6 November 1977 in the first section of the metro. Its western underground lobby leads to Alisher Navoiy on the Oʻzbekiston Line, which opened on 8 December 1984.

Fun fact

In 2023, Tashkent Metroproekt experts proposed a second passage to Alisher Navoiy — a tunnel about 120 m long from the middle of the platform — because at rush hour passengers sometimes have to let three or four trains pass.
